The Bottom Line nightclub closing after three decades in Fort Myers
After 30 years of dancing, queenly shows and weekend fun, The Bottom Line is closing in Fort Myers.
The LGBT nightclub will shut its doors this Thursday, says longtime deejay Patrick Sweeney (aka DJ Kooshie). He blamed dwindling attendance for the closing of the sprawling Evans Avenue club.
“It’s been 30 years. It’s the end of an era,” Sweeney said Monday. “I consider it a blow to the LGBT community.
“I’ve always called it a shining beacon where everybody can depart and be who they are or who they opt to be and can be accepted.”

Patrons expressed their dismay on Facebook after Sweeney posted that the club would keep its last Saturday bash on May 27.
“TONIGHT IS THE LAST RIDE,” he wrote. “THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR LOYALTY AND DEVOTION OVER 30 YEARS. CAN’T Remain TO SEE ALL OF YOU TONIGHT.”
Tony Starr of Lehigh Acres said he was sorry to hear the news. “I have many special memories at TBL. You will be missed.”
AJ Blasco of Key West put it this way: “One last mirror dance…”

LGBTQ Travel Guide to Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach
The Fort Myers region offers an LGBTQ-friendly run away away from the capital. This Gulf Coast urban area, comprised of downtown Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach, is packed with culture, a sense of community, and an inclusive feel.
Background of Fort Myers and Its Beaches
Fort Myers is a bustling coastal town in Lee County. Set along the Caloosahatchee River where it meets the San Carlos Bay, the region was initially inhabited by the Calusa tribe of Native Americans before the Seminole Wars. The city became a settlers’ community in 1866 when Civil War Captain Manual A. Gonzalez moved his family to the area and opened a trading post.
Since its incorporation in 1885 as a city of 349 people, Fort Myers’ population and popularity have steadily grown.
Though Fort Myers offers a quieter atmosphere than its neighbors to the North and South, this pretty city provides a plethora of activities for a variety of tastes. With an international airport and major highways nearby, accessibility makes both Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach perfect additions to your gay Florida travel itinerary.
