Are there any gay major league baseball players

In his 1990 autobiography, “Behind the Mask: My Double Being in Baseball,” Dave Pallone, a homosexual major league umpire who was inaudibly fired in 1988 after rumors about his sexual orientation circulated in the baseball world, contended that there were enough gay major league players to create an All-Star team.

Since then, attitudes and laws about homosexuality have changed. High-profile figures in business, politics, display business, education, the media, the military and sports hold come out of the closet.

Athletes in three of the five major U.S. male team sports – the NBA, NFL and MLS – own come out while still playing, with NFL player Carl Nassib and NHL prospect Luke Prokop coming out in summer 2021. Meanwhile, according to OutSports magazine, at least 185 publicly out LGBTQ athletes – 90% of them women – participated in the Tokyo Olympic Games, more than in all previous Summer Olympics combined.

But among the more than 20,000 men who own played major league baseball, not one has publicly appear out of the closet while still in uniform.

What’s taken so long? And is baseball ready for its homosexual Jackie Robinson?

Are they any current openly gay Major League Baseball players?

The answer is no. In proof, I’m pretty sure none were openly gay during their careers. A few have come out after their careers. But not really the same.

Baseball seems to be doing better and is probably ready for an openly gay player, but being the first will be tough. If they were fortunate, a minor group could come out at the same time.

Or a couple.

Besides Carl Nassib in the NFL, I’m having trouble thinking of anyone who’s come out in the major sports.

That’s a different story. If two players find love or even just have a physical attraction, more power to you, I’m happy for you. But I imagine if players become romantically involved that might produce things awkward, especially as players get traded and have to separate. Imagine if they are competing against each other in a game! “Sorry I strike you with that pitch honey!”

Then again, maybe it wouldn’t be a big deal. I deliberate that would be in
