Best caribbean islands for gays

All refreshing, all inspiring, all fabulous! Here's our roundup of the best homosexual friendly island in the world!

When we think of island living, we picture Amanda Seyfried in Mamma Mia rolling around on a golden beach, gazing out onto the impossibly clear ocean, whilst dramatically singing ABBA next to a gorgeous man.

Sadly, it’s not really like that. Our singing is embarrassingly off key for one thing…

There’s a reason Stefan and I love same-sex attracted island holidays so much. The partying, the sunbathing, the disconnect from the rest of the world. It’s the ultimate getaway.

But selecting the ideal island trip is a tricky selection. Do you opt for the most isolated place possible? Is there a prominent gay scene? Will there be a place to charge my phone? All these things need to be factored in!

So, we've pooled together our favorite gay amiable islands from around the world and listed them for you below.

The Caribbean conjures images in our minds of lackadaisical lying on hammocks between palm trees, cocktail of choice in hand, with but one care in the world: relaxation. The region of the Americas is calm of over 700 islands, each and every one surrounded by pristine waters, flour-white sands, and reefs just teeming with tropical sea life. Embrace the prospect of becoming a citizen, not just a visitor, and contri

Most LGBTQ+ travelers would ponder that most, if not all, the Caribbean islands would be welcoming to our community because of its proximity to queer-friendly Mexico. However, some islands are not, and some are slowly making modest policy changes.

High Courts in a few Caribbean islands – St. Kitts and Nevis, Barbados, and Antigua and Barbuda – have overturned anti-gay sex laws (buggery laws) that once made sexual relations between men a criminal offense and punishable by death.

Even though laws are changing, the Caribbean region is not as evolving as Mexico and Core American countries, like Costa Rica. Vacationer Magazine urges all LGBTQ+ travelers to research any desired destination to determine if it is genuinely welcoming and a safe place for us to visit. With our community’s safety in mind, we wanted to compile a short list of Caribbean islands that you may want to consider when contemplating a warm-weather getaway to this sun-soaked region.

  • However, local laws make some islands less friendly to the homosexual community than others.
  • The following Caribbean destinations are where I've felt the most welcome as an LGBTQIA+ traveler, plus local tips for each.

I'm a white, cisgender gay travel writer. And while my experience could never indicate that of all queer people, I have found the Caribbean to be among the safest and friendliest places for LGBTQIA+ travelers.

As travelers become more judicious with their cash and PTO, I regularly find myself assessing how truly queer-friendly and secure a destination is before recommending it to others, or planning a trip myself.

The Caribbean is one region I return again
