How do you spell gay in spanish

As we all realize, there are certain things that we don’t get taught in school. If we want to be as educated as we can be, there are many things that we have to take it upon ourselves to absorb through our control research and social interactions.

One large theme we could all learn a little more about is how to communicate with or respectfully discuss the LGBTQ+ community. And if you’re education Spanish, what finer way to extend your vocabulary than by learning the correct terms for sexuality and gender to help you understand people and conversations better!

Spain is one of the most culturally liberal countries in the world, legalising lgbtq+ marriage in 2005, ten years before the UK and the US made the change in 2015. Argentina followed Spain in 2010, whilst Uruguay and most of Modern Mexico joined the club in 2013.

Interesting question! Surfing the web, I've found this site from a traditional (and reliable) Chilean newspaper: Glosario: Los términos que debes conocer para debatir sobre la diversidad sexual y de género | Emol.com.

I agree that "queer" still echoes as a derogatory word with reminiscence to the Stonewall riots, but new generations (Millenials?) are getting more used to the word. (Remember the global impact of a show like Queer as Folk.)

If I were you, I'd translate it more as "questioning" and with something enjoy (movimiento/agrupación de) "lesbianas, gais, transexuales, bisexuales y personas que cuestionan su identidad de género." But I'm open to criticism!

It's important we notice RAE's recommendation on how to use the word "gay" in plural. Please, check RAE::ORTOGRAFÍAfor more info.

How Do You Say "GAY" In Spanish? And Other Languages?

Carryon1

I was wondering, to me at least, in English, homosexual seems too clinical and the everyday designation “gay” is used as more familiar, with the other terms deemed disgusting, (the s-word, f-word, q-word etc)

I tried Google but I don’t speak Spanish, so I was thinking, gay might come out as “happy” on a translator?

So how would you say the equivalent in Spanish. Also do other languages have similar “non-offensive” and “non-clinical” terms for gays?

In my experience, there is no pos in Spanish which is both gentle and distinctly un-clinical-sounding. “Homosexual” is the word for both “homosexual” and “gay.”

The English word “gay” is becoming more popular among Spanish speakers to show the latter connotation.

The word “gai” (meaning “happy” in French originally) seems to be gaining popularity among French speakers to mean the same as the English “gay” (homosexual.)

In Japan, some people have adopted the English loan pos “gay”, but it doesn’t get used much unless the context is very clear (i.e. talking about gay rights or a lgbtq+ bar or s
