Yankees gay pride
Yankees one of four MLB teams to never have held LGBT pride night
In a city established for its glad hour culture, summer can be an even better moment to take edge of post-work cocktail and eat deals. Interns are in town, summer Fridays are in packed swing, and patios and rooftops are aplenty. Here are a few prime, non-comprehensive spots for an afternoon deal with besties, colleagues, and new connections.
Alfreda. Dupont’s Alfreda, a tribute to the chef’s grandmother, suggestions relaxed pizza and traditional Italian eats. The happy hour runs Monday-Friday 4-6 p.m., featuring $8 spritzes and BOGO pizzas. Few carry out spritzes like the Italians, and Alfreda leans in on five kinds plus one N/A spritz; our go-to is the rose and mezcal with grapefruit or the locally made Don Ciccio limoncello spritz with basil.
Lyle’s. Especially leaning into the spritz side of summer is at Lyle’s, fully embracing the fizzy ephemera of the season with the Summer of Spritz. The Dupont Circle hotel restaurant imagines cocktails from France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Spritzes feature limoncello and vinho verde. For those that smash Lyle’s every week during the spritz special—and get a literal stamp on Ly

The New York Yankees are welcoming the entire LGBTQIA+ community, their friends, family, and allies to celebrate their first ever Lgbtq+ fest Night at Yankees Stadium.

A portion from every ticket sold for the event will help NYC Pride initiatives and buyers will receive a free Pride-themed Yankees hat, a free regular-sized hot dog, and their first drink free.
Yankees set to be only MLB team not to host LGBTQ Pride Night
When the New York Mets held their first LGBTQ Pride Night in August 2016, fans waved rainbow flags in the stadium, the Lesbian and Homosexual Big Apple Corps Marching Band performed, Citi Field’s giant Coca-Cola sign was lit up in rainbow colors and the Peck Cam caught several lgbtq+ smooches throughout the game. In keeping with tradition, the team honored a veteran at the game, and for that first Pride Night, the Mets honored a gay Army vet.
Nearly two years later, however, the Mets’ hometown rivals — the Recent York Yankees — hold yet to host a Pride Night of their own, In fact, the Yankees are currently the only Major League Baseball team that has neither had a Pride Evening nor has one scheduled.
When the Los Angeles Angels announced earlier this week their plans to host an LGBTQ-themed night in June 2019, the Yankees were left as the lone Pride Night holdout among the MLB’s 30 teams.
“It's going to be real hard to watch in the mirror and see themselves as the only team in Major League Baseball that is not holding a Celebration Night,” said David Kilmnick, CEO of the LGBT Network, a New York-based nonprofit.
