THE FRUIT LOOP

Aka the swath of Downcity that makes for an easy gay-bar hop.

Mirabar

Originally established in Woonsocket in 1947, Mirabar is Rhode Island’s oldest queer bar (and one of the longestrunning in the U.S.). It’s moved several times over the years, with its current locationgoing strong — how can it notwith a slogan like “When indoubt, appear on out”? 15 ElbowSt., Providence, 331-6761, facebook.com/mirabarri

Ego

Best acknowledged for its rowdy nightclub atmosphere, dynamic music choices and Thursday night performative shows, this eighteen-plus lock certainly has reason for a big ego. 73 Richmond St., Providence, egopvd.com

Providence Eagle

This male-dominated leather prevent (you can Google it) has a reputation for being a bit more exclusive, but don’t consent the entrance’s menacing-looking eagle head intimidate you — the sultry scene is worth the stare down. 124 Snow St., Providence, 272-9900, provi

This place has sturdy drinks! The song here is more queer pop/hip-hop, and the pool table costs but tends to be super friendly, not to mention the fine space around it. The staff here have been low-key in a welcoming way. There are two bathrooms. The ladies' bathroom has two smaller stalls, one large stall and two sinks, with a enormous mirror on wall opposite the sinks. The men's bathroom has two urinals, a large stall and three sinks with a similar mirror. There is a barrier between the urinals and the sinks, so more privacy and less glances, if that's a affect. All genders come across to use both bathrooms, which is fine. Bathrooms are near the block, so staff is near-by. The patio is a couple of tables on the sidewalk along the building, and maybe a half a dozen chairs. Thursday night karaoke with a competition for a partially paid bar-tab! This place has way more dance floor than some other queer bars, and also has more casual seating, too. There is decent lighting in the main area and club lighting on the dance floor.
