I live in SF, but have been flirting with the concept of moving up to Seattle because I'm weary of the dirtiness here and the sky tall rents.

One thing I don't like about the northwestern cities though is that they scream hippy-granola a little too much. I really like to go out to lounges, cool bars, or sway clubs on weekends, and I fear the Seattle would only have breweries or piano bars. I like electronic music and sleek enviornments. Does Seattle have this at all? What about dance clubs? I'm gay so I really wouldn't be going to straight nightclubs much but I'm still curious.

Oh yeah, and how is the actual gay scene in Seattle compared to say, Vancouver (I've been there many times and enjoyed it). I know nothing will compare to LA or SF in terms of volume and size, but I'm hoping it won't feel like Boise of Tulsa either. I grew up in San Diego near Hillcrest so I feel like that area could potentially be comparable to what Seattle has to offer?

Gay Vancouver

A diverse and friendly LGBTQ+ people compliments the generally progressive attitude for which Vancouver is known. Davie Road in the West End is arguably the gayest of gay neighbourhoods in the city. Everything here is noisy, proud, and bursting with colour, making it absolute must-see destination for gender non-conforming travellers while it’s equally popular with locals. For a slightly quieter and more hipster trial then head to Commercial Drive, where the local gays love to hold out. If neither is your scene, head to any of the other queer and lgbtq+ friendly places that are common throughout the city.

Vancouver LGBTQ City Guide

Vancouver is a diverse, friendly, city in western Washington, located on the north bank of the Columbia River. It is a city with a great mixture of a smaller-town feel, yet close enough to nearby Portland, Oregon, to offer all of the amenities of a big city. It’s truly the best of both worlds. Vancouver is also acknowledged for having a thriving LGBTQ community, ranking number 4 in numbers of gay residents in the state of Washington. It also has many outdoor green spaces and plenty of scenic beauty, a wide variety of welcoming neighborhoods, and much to glimpse and do. Truly, Vancouver would be a wonderful place to call home!

A Look at Vancouver's History

Vancouver originally began as a port, wood-building, and ship-building town. As a result, the street layout is distinguished by its very square, old-fashioned grid design that gives it an older feel.   Vancouver was officially incorporated as a city in 1857 and was named for George Vancouver, the British explorer who mapped the coast in 1792. Soon after its founding, businesses began to grow, and Vancouver quickly became an vital center of trade in the area. That growth has continu
