Amandla Stenberg Comes Out as Gay

Amandla Stenberg came out as gay in a new interview for Wonderland.

The Everything, Everything star common a picture of the corresponding shoot and cover story on Instagram this weekend.

"OUT & PROUD," part of her post read. "So happy to say the words Yep, I'm Lgbtq+ in official print."

In the piece, Stenberg said she released "joyful and overwhelmed sobs" upon realizing her sexuality.

"I was so overcome with this profound meaning of relief when I realized that I'm gay—not bi, not pan, but gay—with a romantic romance for women," she said. "All of the things that felt so internally contrary to my truest self were rectified as I unravelled a drawn-out web of denial and self deprivation. Like oh, maybe there's a reason why I kissed my best friends and felt ashamed growing up. Or watched lesbian porn and masturbated (and more) with my friends at sleepovers. Or stifled a scream of horror the first time I saw a penis and had to convince myself with much internal strife that I was enjoying what was going down. Or could only find attraction towards gay men

Amandla Stenberg comes out as gay

"Hunger Games" actress Amandla Stenberg has been expose about her sexuality in the past, but in an interview released on Monday, she stated for the first time that she's gay.

In a discussion with Wonderland magazine, Stenberg, 19, said that she's famous since childhood that she was attracted to women, but didn't understand at the time what that meant.

She felt "this profound perception of relief" once she was capable to make feeling of her feelings, she told the magazine.

"All of the things that felt so internally hostile to my truest self were rectified as I unravelled a long web of denial and self-deprivation," she explained. "I was flooded with a meaning of calm and peace because everything that I struggled with or felt discomfort around finally made sense to me, and once those floodgates opened and years of pent up pain and shame were released, I start the freedom to live my leading life waiting for me just underneath."

Stenberg first addressed her sexuality in 2016, when she took over Teen Vogue's Snapchat channel and told followers that she identified as bisexual. Several months later, she

The route to self-discovery can be sinuous for teenagers, especially when they don’t determine as straight. Juvenile actress Amandla Stenberg just came out as gay in an interview with Wonderland Magazine.
While she had previously stated that she was bisexual, she said: “Yep, I’m Gay – not bi, not pan, but gay”. “I was so overcome with this profound sense of relief when I realized that I’m queer – not bi, not pan, but gay – with a romantic devotion for women”. (…)
As for her crushes when she was a kid, she revealed: “Mila Kunis was probably my first womxn loving womxn crush, besides that silver haired hoe Mirage from The Incredibles or Kristina Vidal’s punk ass in Freaky Friday”.
Stenberg added that she also felt empowered by Frida Kahlo’s fluidity.

'Hunger Games' star Amandla Stenberg: 'Yep, I'm gay, not bi or pan'

Amandla Stenberg, the former teen star of "The Hunger Games" who came out as bisexual in 2016 when she was 17, says she now realizes she's gay. 

In an interview with "Wonderland" magazine, she got right to the direct, joking about her "Ellen DeGeneres on the 'Time' cover" moment."

"Yep, I'm Gay," she told singer King Princess, who conducted the interview for the international magazine that covers new and established talent in pop culture, including fashion, film, music and art.

"I was so overcome with this profound sense of relief when I realized that I’m gay – not bi, not pan, but gay – with a romantic love for women," Stenberg said. 

Stenberg, now 19, said she had a few giant "Gay Sob moments" when she realized her sexuality. But she said they were joyful and overwhelmed sobs, not "mournful," and that "socialization" kept her from "understanding and living my facts for a while."
